Angie had a secret. She could not stop buying purses, although her husband and her family had forbidden it. She hid them in closets and in the trunk of her car. She hid them behind sheets in the linen closet. She hid them on hangers between her clothes. She hid them in drawers and "empty" shoeboxes. She even hid them inside themselves, so that one opened purse revealed another, then another, like Russian dolls.
She didn't carry them, since no one could know about them. Many still had their price tags attached and bulged with factory-stuffed tissue paper, silicone packets tucked into compartments.
Angie had the sweet heart of an angel, though few people realized it. Once they noticed that she needed dental work or could stand to lose a few pounds, she became invisible to them.
