I Refuse to Be Burdened With a Purse
Michelle Kelley

My story is about freedom from a purse. I had a purse stolen years ago when I was a teenager and it was a bad experience. You see, I was a young mother with not much money and losing something like that was horrible. It cost me too much money to replace the things inside and I could not afford the expense.

This event, along with the combination of carrying diaper bags, backpacks for going back to college, shopping bags, shoulder bags and children...I decided not to burden myself with another heavy bag or item to carry. I now have a small "wallet on a string".

My little black wallet on a string is fabulous. I wear it diagonally across my body and I feel like a woman during a revolution; emblazened with a strap of bullets across her chest, ready to take on the world.

I walk solidly down the street free from the burden of having to carry anything in my hands. I am ready for anything.
